3 Days in Pondicherry: French Quarter Walks and Beach Time
A three-day Puducherry plan: White Town, a Promenade sunrise, Auroville if you want it, and seafood without a crowded schedule.

Pondicherry (Puducherry) is small. You can “see it” in a day and still miss the point. The French Quarter is for walking slowly, twice.
Day 1 — White Town
- Morning: Promenade Beach walk. Sunrise here is worth the alarm.
- Late morning: Sri Aurobindo Ashram from the outside if you are not visiting as a guest; keep voices down.
- Afternoon: Notre Dame des Anges, colourful streets around Rue Romain Rolland, a long lunch.
- Evening: gelato and another Promenade loop. That repetition is the trip.
Day 2 — Auroville or the beach
- Auroville: go early, dress modestly, and do not treat the Matrimandir viewing point as a selfie factory.
- Or skip Auroville and spend the day at Paradise Beach via the boat, or a quieter stretch toward Serenity.
- Night: seafood on the quieter side of town, not only the tourist strip.
Day 3 — Cafes and exit
- One last cafe morning. Buy nothing you would not carry on a bus.
- Chennai airport is 3–4 hours with traffic — leave earlier than you think.
Practical notes
- Alcohol rules and ashram etiquette are stricter than a typical beach town. Read signs.
- Heat and humidity are real most of the year; December–February is the gentlest.
- Scooters are easy; helmets are not optional.
