4 Days in Kerala: Kochi, Backwaters, and a Quiet Beach Finish
A four-day Kerala itinerary from Fort Kochi to Alleppey’s backwaters, with a last night by the sea — houseboats, Syrian-Christian food, and slow ferries.

Kerala rewards unhurried travel. This 4-day route keeps transfers short and puts the houseboat in the middle, not on day one when you are still shaking off the flight.
Day 1 — Fort Kochi
Land in COK and go straight to Fort Kochi / Mattancherry.
- Chinese fishing nets at golden hour, not midday.
- Jew Town antique street and Paradesi Synagogue if it is open.
- Dinner: a Kerala fish curry and appam. Skip a packed sightseeing loop; walk instead.
Day 2 — Museum, spice, and the ferry
- Morning: Kerala Folklore Museum or a quiet café in the heritage quarter.
- Afternoon: ferry or private transfer toward Alleppey / Alappuzha (about 1.5–2.5 hours depending on traffic).
- Check into a canal-facing homestay if you are not boarding a boat until the next morning.
Day 3 — Backwaters
A private houseboat is the postcard version; a village homestay with a canoe is often more peaceful and better value.
- Cruise or paddle through narrower canals after breakfast, when birdlife is active.
- Eat on board or at a family kitchen — karimeen pollichathu if it is on the menu.
- Stay overnight on water only if you like the engine hum; many travelers sleep better on land and cruise by day.
Day 4 — Beach buffer
Finish in Marari or a quiet stretch near Alleppey rather than rushing back to Kochi at dawn.
- Morning swim, late checkout, then COK with a 3-hour buffer.
